Oyster Roast Held to Benefit Withers Swash Preserve

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Mr. Fish Oyster Festival was held Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot.

The local restaurant held the oyster roast to help clean up the Withers Swash Preserve with the proceeds going towards its clean up effort.

Organizers say the used shells collected will help improve the oyster bed in the preserve.

One of those organizers, Jared Hendrix, said "What we're doing is taking these oyster shells, they'll be recycled. We are working with DNR and Coastal Carolina, who are doing the experimental project in Withers Swash and basically replanting these oyster shells."

Besides the oyster roast, there was also live music, games and contests.
