Crown Reef ResortCourtesy of TripAdvisor Reviews for Crown Reef at South Beach Resort
December 20, 2011- I always spend Thanksgiving every year at the beach.. This year again we stayed at Crown Reef.. The staff was amazing and got a wonderful king jaquzzi suite for next to nothing being off season.. And as a frequent customer and signing up through Email you also get great deals!! Even though this is an older hotel it is still beautiful and very clean! Have stayed here many times.. And will continue to!! October 31, 2011- First of all, I didn't care for the fact that the lobby was across the street from the rooms. The rooms were clean, but a little attention to detail would help. Room had a Maple Syrup-like smell, which I didn't care for. Was pleasantly surprised that the room included a full kitchen with eating and cooking utensils. Beds were comfortable and the view from the private balcony was awesome. Housekeeping seemed to be a little careless with restocking as sometimes they would leave creamer packets or paper cups and sometimes they wouldn't. (again, attention to detail.) The Crown Reef had a nice pool area, lazy river, and jacuzzis. We didn't eat at the restaurant and the gift shop wasn't open during the week. Only two of the three elevators were working which made for long waits at times. Personally, I would not stay here again, as there are so many choices along the beach. September 13, 2011 - We stayed at the Crown Reef during labor day weekend. We had one of the efficiency rooms. I've seen that rooms there can go for like $200 a night during peak season but I got our room for $95 per night through travelzoo. I don't think I'd pay the regular rate but if I ever see a deal like that again I'd definitely stay. Check in was quick and easy. We were given coupon books, a Myrtle beach visitors guide and 8 free breakfast coupons. The coupons were for the Treasure Chest restaurant in the hotel, and I recommend not eating there. We got the express breakfast with our coupons and it wasn't good at all. There's another restaurant on site and maybe that one is better, but we didn't eat there so I can't say. Our room was nice and clean, I liked having the in room safe, and the view was spectacular. The beds were ok, not the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept on but it wasn't the worst either. The pool area was nice but the outdoor pool and the kiddie pool were freezing cold! Overall we had a good stay. I also really like that it's located at the south end of town so it's a bit quieter. I'd also recommend having lunch or dinner at the Damon's right up the street from the hotel! September 6, 2011 - This is the second time we stayed at the Crown Reef and certainly not our last. We chose an efficiency room and having the kitchen was very convenient. The pools and lazy river are a huge hit with our family. This is an older resort and could use a little TLC but the rooms and the grounds were very clean. It was the perfect place and offered us everything we needed for our vacation. There is 1 main point that I'd like to make. We had to cut our vacation short due to a sudden illness in the family. The staff was amazingly accommodating and even offered us a refund for the days we did not use. They made having to leave a lot easier and less stressful. We are eternally grateful to the wonderful staff at the Crown Reef for their compassion and warm heart. We will definitely be back again. And we can't wait! August 21, 2011 - This was our 2nd stay at Crown Reef. Considering that I had to find accommodations for 5 adults, 4 kids and a baby, Crown Reef's room options allowed us to stay in one room rather than being split up; quite comfortably I might add. No there is not air conditioning in the elevators, but how much time do you plan spending in one? The elevators move swiftly and was not a concern for us. We stayed a week and never saw one bug this stay or last. Hotel location is great; quick access to Kings Hwy and grocery stores for food supplies. Beds were comfortable including wall bed and sofa bed; we made use of them all. Baby travel bed fit in bedroom perfectly as well. Front desk responded to help calls without delay and was much appreciated. What help calls you might ask? Maid service was on-time daily, but their English comprehension was lacking; only disappointment of our stay. With 9 people in our room, it goes without saying that we needed more than 2 rolls of generic toilet paper or 4 towels a day. When we asked for more, we got less. Hello front desk?!!! They provided immediately, but for the price I paid to stay here, I wasn't impressed that I had to be inconvenienced daily making help calls to the front desk. In summary, the fun our crew had at the Crown Reef outweighed any inconvenience. Reserving at this hotel will always be my 1st choice. July 17, 2011 - We enjoyed our stay so much that we've already booked another trip for the fall! The hotel was very nice, our rooms were clean and had a fantastic view of the ocean. The beach was beautiful and well kept. We had the most fun at the pool bar and in the lazy river. Very relaxing trip! June 21, 2011 - We went to the crown reef for a girl's weekend a few weeks ago. We had such a FABULOUS time there!! The staff was super friendly and the breakfast buffet was very good. The lazy river was nice and clean and not crowded at all. There were plenty of available lounge chairs also. Again, I could not say enough about the Crown Reef. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you all for such an enjoyable time! June 13, 2011 - We stayed as a family of 5 with three teenagers in an ocean front suite. The room was fantastic for the price. It was plenty large enough for us all with 2 queen size beds and 2 full size (sofa bed and murphy) beds. The kitchen had full size appliances and dishes. Everything appeared clean, I always wash hotel dishes before use anyway, so that wasn't an inconvenience. No signs of bugs. The resort itself appears to have been very nice in the past, but has suffered from lack of financial updates. I heard the owner had died and the family was selling and no longer interested in the property. There were things like wallpaper staining and ceiling cracks from previous water damage, but these did not affect my stay. The pools were fantastic. The hot tubs need some attention as well as the elevators, but neither loss made for a bad trip. It was a HUGE deal, don't come expecting 5* and you won't be disappointed. The staff was very nice and allowed me to look at all three types of rooms beforehand and choose what I wanted. Breakfast was great. We received free coupons for a plate breakfast and were also able to upgrade to buffet, we don't both. It was very tasty. I kept the Do Not Disturb sign on my door at all times and when I saw the maid, I took my dirty towels and trash to her and asked for clean linens. I had NO PROBLEMS with housekeeping coming in unannounced. We had a great vacation!!!! June 7, 2011 - We took a chance and booked 3 nights - sight unseen and hoped for the best. We simply needed a beach getaway. At the time they were running a special that we just couldn't pass up! We were upgraded to an oceanfront efficiency which was great for a family of 4. The room was clean and fully stocked with towels, dishes and the usual. This is a grouping of a number of older hotel buildings in an established part of Myrtle Beach. We didn't venture too far from the hotel except to run to Piggly Wiggly supermarket to pick up some necessities or to some of the local attractions and restaurants. The breakfast offered was ok - it suited our needs. The pools and having the simple beach access was WONDERFUL. Apr 18, 2011 - My husband and I first spent time at Crown Reef last year for Valentine's Day and because of the Wonderful time we had we went back again this year. The Crown Reef is a Beautiful Resort the rooms are spacious and if you opt for a room with an ocean view then you are really get a Awesome View. The Crown Reef sits directly on the beach so when you open the balcony doors all you hear is the ocean! The rooms were clean, The staff was Extremely Friendly and very Knowledgeable about the area and the different activities offered. The room service and the resort's cafe offered great food at a decent price. The resort offers a lot of on site activities for families also. This has become our new Couple's Getaway Spot and we plan on going back every year that we can! Mar 28, 2011 - I have just returned from staying at the Crown Reef. The room was plenty big enough with all the conveniences you would need. The check in was great and the express check out was wonderful. The housekeeping staff was wonderful and I did not have to ask for anything. I will absolutely stay here again. Hats off to the front desk and the housekeeping staff. Feb 21, 2011 - My Family and I stay here occasionally for the Thanksgiving holiday. It is an older hotel with great pools for families. It also has a restaurant that is pretty good. The views from the top floor rooms are amazing. That alone keeps me coming back every year. It's not the Hilton but it gets the job done. If anything else, your children will love it! Feb 13, 2011 - Very nice resort with very reasonable off season rates. Damon's restaurant right next door is very good. Love to come here for a weekend getaway and just relax. Feb 3, 2011 - This hotel is in desperate need of a major remodeling. The bathtub was in terrible shape, the acrylic finish was completely gone and someone had tried to paint some type of coating over the worst areas. All it did was make a bad situation worse. The laminate was peeling off of the kitchenette cabinets, the bed and pillows were not comfortable and the room needed a thorough vacuuming. I requested that the room be vacuumed the next morning, but could see no difference after the room had been made up. Housekeeping didn't even bother to rinse out the coffee maker!
